What is the Guild?

The Guild of Photographers (then and now The Guild of Wedding Photographers) was established in 1988 as the Guild of Wedding Photographers and quickly established itself as the premier organisation for training and developing for social photographers.

The criteria for qualifications achieved within the Guild are strict and very appropriate to the profession of Photographer - whether they be Wedding or Portrait or any other speciality.
On this website you can access our list of members with varying levels of qualification. See our 'Find a Guild Member' above.

To help you make your decision, there is an explanation of our qualification requirements below and you may also like to refer to our short section on Choosing a Photographer. See 'Choosing' in our 'Find a Guild Member' menu above.

Why use a Guild Photographer?

Your wedding day is special. By joining the Guild, a photographer is showing his commitment to his profession, and by choosing a Guild Photographer you are using someone who is dedicated to his craft. We ask for feedback from our members’ clients in order to monitor their performance.

Our Register of Photographers

We like to give you the opportunity to decide for yourself who to employ to take your wedding photographs, so you will find listed here in this directory not only members of the Guild, qualified and unqualified, but also non-members who have expressed a wish to be listed here.

Qualifications are a very good guide to capability and expertise, and you will find a description of the criteria our members have to fulfil to become a Qualified member, or a Craftsman or Master Craftsman. Nonetheless, our Registered Members and other listings may also provide you with the service you require. By using our checklist, you can find the ideal candidate (See 'How to Choose').

The Guild Qualifications

We have four categories of membership of the Guild. They are:

Registered – a member who has not submitted any work for judging. Some of these are very experienced photographers, others may have just started but also be full of enthusiasm.

Qualified – having submitted 20 photographs for judging, we deem them to have reached a good standard of photography, sufficient to provide you with a good set of photographs of your wedding.

Craftsman – a member has to submit three complete weddings to us for judging, along with recommendations from their clients.
The photographer has to show a high degree of technical and artistic competence, plus show that he has a good rapport with his/her customers.

Master Craftsman – at this level, a member has to satisfy us that his work is of a superior standard. We look at three complete wedding albums, a selection of enlargements and yet more recommendations, plus take a complete overview of his presentation. A professional approach to work and dealing with clients is most important.
