Brides looking for that peaceful and private location to have their wedding photographs or video taken should take a look at the NGS Devon Gardens Book.

This small booklet give details of over 120 gardens throughout Devon in the National Gardens Scheme.

Jo Jackson from Bideford recently contacted Mr & Mrs Stanley-Baker who own The Downes Near Torrington and are a members of the NGS. Their garden is open for charity from 14 April until 6 June but they welcome visitors at other times by appointment.
Jo wanted a special place for her wedding photographs and The Downes fitted the bill perfectly. After the ceremony the wedding party visited The Downes where photographs were taken in the spacious garden.

The Scheme has been in operation since 1927 and donated £15 million in the last 10 years to nursing and garden charities that include Macmillan Cancer Relief and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The Devon Gardens Book is available from most garden centres and Tourist Information Centres. Alternatively send an A5 SAE to Devon NGS, Sutton Mead, Moretonhampstead, Newton Abbot, TQ13 8PW (mark the SAE "2006"). Details of all NGS gardens throughout England and Wales are also on the website at www.ngs.org.uk .
